Van der Sar: Manchester United CAN replace De Gea if he goes to Real Madrid

Former Man Utd goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar tells Reds fans it won't be the end of the world if David De Gea leaves for Real Madrid this summer. Edwin Van der Sar believes his Manchester United successor David De Gea will be successfully replaced if the Spaniard leaves for Real Madrid. When the Dutch number one retired four years ago Sir Alex Ferguson made the shock choice of bringing in Atletico Madrid’s 20-year-old unproven keeper as a replacement.

Memphis Depay Memphis Depay: What are Manchester United getting for their £25m?

After finishing as the Eredivisie’s top scorer last season, Manchester United’s latest signing Memphis Depay has Reds’ fans expecting big things. But what exactly are they getting with a man who Louis van Gaal was so willing to pay £25m for? With Depay widely considered as one of Europe’s top young talents, United have undoubtedly bought someone with potential. As the youngest player to have scored more than 15 goals in the continent’s top 10 leagues last season, the winger has proved that he has the ability to be a potent threat from the wing, despite his fledgling age.

1.34pm The kids

They're alright at United. And they will get a chance on tour. Here's Louis. "I shall take a lot of youngsters with us to the USA," Van Gaal said. "They have the chance to show themselves and then we shall wait and observe how they can develop. You get your chances always, especially in pre-season and, when you grab that chance, you have maybe the possibility to join us next season."

11.37am Nani

An oft-trotted out line, but Nani is not thinking about his future. “I do not want to think about [my future] now,” said Nani. “I’m focused on the national team and the important thing is rest after.”

11.21am Rooney

Wayne Rooney is a goal away from breaking the England scoring record, but he wouldn't mind if he quickly loses it. "You're hoping that two or three who come in and take it really quick. That'd be great," Rooney said. "If it happens, I wouldn't be too concerned. The main thing would be that it did happen and I am sure it will."

10.56am Jesse Lingard

Injuries disrupted Lingard last season and he then went on loan to Derby. There are reports today that Steve McClaren is interested in working with the England Under-21 international again, this time at Derby. Jesse Lingard made his United debut on the opening day

10.45am Karim Benzema

The Guardian's Manchester reporter Jamie Jackson has been on talkSPORT this morning: “United’s number one target in Benzema, but if they come to the end of the window and United are still struggling to get a top striker, you might see them trying to push the Kane deal through,” he said.

9.59am Harry Kane

Fabrie Muamba has given his thoughts on the Tottenham striker to the Express. "There is no point in going to United if you're not going to be the main man," he said. "At Spurs, he is the No1 player, he is the main guy right now. Unless he is sure that he is going to be the main man at United I would advise him to stay at Spurs and improve his career. "It will be tough for Harry next season. To do what he has done in the Premier League year in, year out, takes a very strong talent. So we can assess Harry Kane much better next season to see where we are in terms of progress or whether he is a one-hit wonder."

9.36am Live: Andy Cole Message to Van Gaal

More from Andy on United's style. His message for Van Gaal is pretty clear. “It was different to what the fans have been used to. When you watch Manchester United you expect them to play a certain way with a high-tempo and score loads of goals,” he said. “The way we set up is like international football, where they keep possession of the football and don’t really hurt teams. In the Premier League, it's not really played like that. “It’s not a typical Man United. It’s not Sir Alex Ferguson football where you had to attack because he and the fans would let you know you’re not attacking. That’s what everyone is so used to, so when you hear the fans singing “Attack, attack, attack”, that’s what they want to see."

FOOTBALL NEWS: Why Memphis Depay will fit in at United

Much has been said and written about Memphis Depay since his impending transfer from PSV Eindhoven to Manchester United was agreed, but how much of it is accurate?  ManUtd.com spoke to Dutch journalist and recent MUTV pundit Thijs Slegers, of Voetbal International , to gain an insight into our prospective new signing, shine a light on his character and discover exactly why he has all of the potential needed to become a bona fide star at Old Trafford... Memphis has a strong bond with the manager:  "Louis van Gaal has experience with bringing younger players to the higher level; he has done this many times in the past and with Memphis it’s certain that they have a click together – you could see this during the World Cup. I would say that van Gaal is the reason why Memphis chose to go to United. Of course, Memphis really likes Manchester United but van Gaal was a really, really important factor."
